As an American living in Canada, the thing I find strangest about this wholly ridiculous yet believable story is that it happened *in Canada* and not the States. Canadian federal employees are, as far as I can tell, characterized by bored geniality and a desire to avoid work. I realize aviation officials in this day and age are probably different, but still, the Canadian urge to smooth things over and make the best seems to have been entirely and successfully repressed by all official parties involved. Except the stewardesses, who come across as pretty nice.
If you scroll down the forum posting you will come across a number of links to canadian newspapers and the police websites reporting on the incident.
