Now Reading
The Death of Lord Haw Haw by Brett Rutledge Published in 1940. Lord Haw Haw was the name given to a series of Nazi propaganda broadcasters during WWII. It's hard to tell whether this book is fictional or not, but it reads like a novel. It's set before the fall of France. Germany had not yet assaulted the Maginot Line but things were becoming increasingly desperate for the French. It's a perspective I have not come across before. I knew about the complacency of the US populace before Pearl Harbor, but this puts a whole new light on it. The story is narrated by a freelance American counter espionage agent recruited by France to stop one version of Lord Haw Haw that he traces back to New York. I don't want to give away more, but I highly recommend it. It's quick and easy to read but exciting none the less.
